The Challenge: Limited Storage in a Sloped-Ceiling Space
The original attic room featured low knee walls and sloped ceilings, which made it difficult to use the space effectively. The area was cluttered with boxes and lacked organized storage. The homeowner wanted a way to hide storage items without taking up more floor space or using standard, bulky closet doors that didn’t fit the room’s aesthetic.
The Solution: Custom Hidden Carpentry
Maya Construction Group, led by owners Udi Yeger and Ofer Gliksman, designed and built two custom bookcase doors. These units were recessed directly into the existing knee wall. By mounting the shelves on a heavy-duty pivot system, we created a “secret door” effect. When closed, they look like standard built-in bookshelves; when open, they provide easy access to the storage area behind the wall.

Space Optimization: Utilized the empty “dead space” behind the attic wall for storage without losing any livable floor area.
Functional Display: Each door features four adjustable shelves for books and decorative items.
Precision Trim Work: Custom casing around the doors to hide the gaps required for the swing radius.
