We are proud to announce another successful project completion of a townhouse renovation in Evanston. For this remodel, we started from ground zero with the kitchen, master bathroom and secondary bathroom. We also replaced all of the flooring on the first floor and painted the entire interior of the home.
Challenges
Like any remodeling project this size, the scheduling and budget were big concerns for the client. The family that bought the house had already sold their previous home and, therefore, had a very fixed move-in date. This schedule proved to be difficult as many design changes, requested by the client later in the schedule than we would like, caused delays that then had to be compensated for. In the end, we were able to stay on schedule and budget. The family is now comfortably living in their new home.
The most challenging part of the construction of this remodel was the kitchen backsplash. The client requested that the stone tiles be situated in a chevron-like pattern meaning each tile had to be placed precisely at a 45-degree angle. Traditionally, tiles can be placed along the countertops and then layered above one another to form the backsplash. Due to the angle of this request, each tile had to me measured, angled, cut and specially placed. This proved to be a very time-consuming process.
Materials Used
For this project, we used durable but beautiful materials to ensure the longevity of the home.
- Engineered Hardwood: this flooring type is more versatile and stable than solid hardwood and laminate. With the same aesthetic look of hardwood flooring, engineered hardwood is more resistant to moisture and humidity than solid hardwood, is better for below-grade installations (like basements, where dampness is common) and it can be installed over radiant heating systems for heated flooring.
- Shaker Style Cabinets: shaker kitchen cabinets are a popular trend in current kitchen renovations because of the classic and simple look they give to either a traditional or contemporary design. Because they have a simple, clean-line design, we were able to use durable materials in their construction.
- Ceaserstone Quartz Countertops: over the last few years, we’ve noticed an increased demand for quartz countertops. This is not entirely surprising as quartz is equally beautiful and durable as granite, but it does not come with all the maintenance. In fact, there’s no maintenance at all.
All in all, we are very happy with how this project turned out and we know that the client is too. Check out some of the photos from this project and request a free estimate for your dream home from a leading remodeling service on our website at https://mayaconstructioninc.com/
